Sammy

My name is Sammy Stillse...

I'm pushing 60 years old and I have a bad back. I've had trouble with it for many years and last March, in 2020 during the COVID scare, my back went out. I couldn't get to my chiropractor because of COVID and I was pretty much laid up and immobile for a couple of a couple weeks. I thought, "I've got to do something, so I just went online and Focus PT came up on Google. I called and Fonda immediately called me back and we did a TeleHealth appointment because we couldn't see each other in person yet. Brad was the one that came in and he fixed me up. Within a week, I was pretty much back walking again! My pain subsided, I felt so much better and very happy. Very happy with them.

How bad did things get and what impact was it having on your life?

Sammy

Sammy

It was so depressing. It was miserable. It was so bad that I couldn't get out of bed without screaming. It was horrible, I cannot tell you how bad it was. I mean, it was so bad that I cried a lot. I didn't think it was ever going to go away. I thought, "it's come to stay," but Brad was so good at talking me through things. He could tell the fear that I had and was really good at talking me out of my thoughts that I was having. He kept saying, "it's going to go away, you just need to do the exercises and sure enough, within a couple weeks, I was much better!

Maggie

Maggie

What else did you try that didn't work?

Sammy

Sammy

Pills. I do take turmeric a lot, natural medicines like that. I was taking essential oils, I was doing some stretches like twisting and things. Brad taught me a lot of stretches I really didn't know and and even today when I start having some pain flare-ups, I'll do those exercises and I wake up the next morning with it gone. So they do work!

Maggie

Maggie

Think back to before you came to see us. How long did you wait before making that decision to see a PT?

Sammy

Sammy

Well, I'd have to say a long time. A friend had suggested that I see a PT a long time ago, but I've seen a chiropractor and it seemed to work. And it still works. I still see my chiropractor, but the pain was so intense that I knew I had to do something. I thought, "well I'm just going to call a physical therapist and see what happens." So I went online and Focus was the first one that popped up! I called them and I loved the way Fonda talked to me, so that's why I went to Focus PT.

Maggie

Maggie

Did you have any obstacles in coming to see a PT? Was it fear, time, cost, general uncertainty, a bad experience somewhere else?

Sammy

Sammy

I guess i was a little skeptical because I thought, "I'm seeing a chiropractor right now, do I need to see another professional?" Once I got in and started talking to Brad, I realized, "oh my goodness, I should have done this a long time ago!" It had been years that I'd heard people saying that I have to go, but i just wouldn't go.

Maggie

Maggie

Since you came to see us what impact have we made on the quality of your life?

Sammy

Sammy

There's no comparison! I try to go twice a month and it's made a huge impact on my life. It has changed me a lot. I don't live in fear anymore because i do know now that I can work on my body to make it better. Like I said, I'm getting older and that's a big that's always been a fear of mine. As I got older, when my back would go out, it would just get worse and worse and worse. Focus has made a big impact on my life. They took away my fear. I'm NOT going to live rest my life in pain! I can do something about it!

Maggie

Maggie

Of all the things you enjoyed about coming to see us, what was one thing you liked best?

Sammy

Sammy

Getting to know Fonda and Brad has been wonderful. I like who they are. I'd have to say that the best thing is fear. I don't have fear anymore. I know that I can fix my body and I don't have to depend on drugs or surgery. I can I can fix my body myself. That's one thing that I totally love about Focus PT.

Maggie

Maggie

What would you say to anyone watching this video who is currently skeptical about PT or undecided?

Sammy

Sammy

I would say try it! I was very skeptical of it. It was ignorance. I didn't know that much about physical therapy! I thought that it was for if you if you were in a car wreck or if you were traumatized by something. I didn't think a backache would be enough to go to a physical therapist but I was so wrong. I would say try it and if it doesn't work for you, it doesn't work. I'm sure it will though because it really does make a difference in your life. Just to know a professional that knows you, knows how to how to fix, knows how to fix your body - it's great. I would at least try it. Just one try!

Maggie

Maggie

How would you describe it to your best friend or a family member?

Sammy

Sammy

I can't live without it now! I don't think I could and it's not just going to them for an appointment. It's what I've gotten from being in physical therapy. I know what to do now to make my my body feel better. Religiously, every morning when I get up, I stretch! I do exercises that they've given me to do. I'm so happy with what I found. Physical therapy does work. It does really really work.

Maggie

Maggie

Last question - in one sentence or less, how would you describe your time with Focus Physical Therapy?

Sammy

Sammy

I never dread going. I always dread going to see a doctor or a dentist but I really never dread my appointments with Focus
