How Is Focus PT Keeping You Safe?
With things slowly opening back up and returning to (somewhat) normal, there is an air of uncertainty. As we start to notice people easing up on regulations more and more, trying to move on from the storm of COVID-19, we have to try to remember what’s important. Not just what’s convenient.
Yes, this has been a trying time. Yes, masks can be inconvenient. Yes, we want to get back together with friends and loved ones. Yes, we want to go out and have fun on a Saturday night. Despite that, it’s crucial that we remember to pay attention to current safety guidelines. Keep wearing your masks, continue to social distance and isolate, consistently wash your hands. If we want to really rid ourselves of this, we have to remain diligent.
With that being said, we want to fill you in on how we’re doing our part to keep YOU, the Focus community, safe, TeleHealth is still the primary option for the treatment of patients at this time. We will continue to use IntakeQ and/or Zoom to fulfill the physical therapy needs of our community. Through your phone, computer, or tablet, we can continue providing the Focus care that you rely on as a crucial part of your ordinary routine.
As far as face-to-face sessions, you will need to be assessed on a case-by-case basis. Patients will require a full screening to assess their eligibility. This is to ensure the health and safety of patients, staff, and the community at large.
In between each patient, we will complete an extensive list of enhanced cleaning protocol. For instance, all touch surfaces are cleaned and sanitized by approved cleaners at the beginning of the work day and between each patient visit. Personal sanitization will continue during treatment sessions, as well as the sanitization of surfaces that are used or touched.
All patients must use Parking Lot Lobby Procedure. This means calling and/or texting us when in the parking lot. A Physical Therapist will call and/or text to let you know when you can come in after enhanced cleaning was done after the previous patient or at the beginning of the day.
Once you get to our clinic, we require you bring your own mask. This is to be worn from your car, during treatment, and until you return to your car.
We will continue to follow the guidelines provided by the CDC and the state of Kentucky. We will get through this as long as we keep calm and push forward TOGETHER.

The Top 3 Sciatica Mistakes People Make
The top three mistakes people make when they have sciatica starts out with not knowing what to do with ice versus heat heat. Usually heat it not going to make you worse, but in the case of sciatica ice is very, very important. There’s usually a very strong inflammatory process going on in your back and down your nerve in the case of sciatica and ice will address this directly, That’s the first mistake people make – they don’t use ice.
The second big mistake is but doing stretches that hurt! Physical therapy should not hurt, It should make leg pain in particular to feel better. If you’re doing an activity or exercise that directly makes your leg pain worse, stop. You can learn different exercises through a PT that will help rather than exacerbate symptoms.
The third mistake is not getting help sooner. The longer you go with this type of condition, especially with leg pain, the harder it is to get better. Even if you just get advice from a PT, you don’t have to go and get treatment right away, you’re helping yourself significantly. You need to get somebody to take care of this, or at least talk with you, as soon as possible.
There’s research showing that there’s an inverse relationship between how long you’ve had sciatica and how quickly you can get better once you start the right treatment protocols.
The longer you wait, the harder it is get better.
