"Feeling Hopeless and Overlooked?"

February 2021 – Issue 23

How long does sciatica last? Well, I have good and bad news for you.

The good news is that sciatica, if we do the right treatment and you really dedicate yourself to it, you can be as good as you want to be. The bad news is that no one knows how long it’s going to last.

I’m sorry to say that if a doctor tells you how long it’s going to last, they’re not telling you the truth or they’re not giving you the right ideas. The reason for that is because they’re not able

to tell exactly how severe it is. What you do in your daily life, like excessive sitting, makes it worse. If you have to do that for your job, that’s something that’s hard to overcome. You’re doing something directly to make it harder, so it’s going to be difficult to really look ahead at your sciatica timeline.

If you’ve only had it for a couple weeks, research shows you might get better quicker, but if you’ve had it for years it’s a little bit harder. In all cases, it can get better. You can actually get to where you want to be, but it’s a process. You have to start the process and change your mindset.

If you can manage it correctly, you will get better. I can’t tell you exactly sure how long it’s going to take, but it will get better if you trust the process.
